IIIC - Communication
Engages in regular, two-way, and culturally proficient communication with families about student learning and performance.
OVERVIEW:
As I said in a previous section, communicating with parents and guardians can be a powerful tool and an asset to any teacher. I make it a point to contact families regularly and to maintain communication in a variety of ways:
1. Email
2. Aspen Online Gradebook (which I regularly update more than once per week)
3. Google Classroom (which I use for all my classes)
4. Direct personal communication via phone call (done at parents' request or when email is not working)
5. Monthly class syllabus (a class-specific monthly planner that lists, day-by-day, everything we do in the class,
including all homework, tests/quizzes, reading, projects, papers, etc.)
6. Parent-Teacher conferences (both the school-wide events, and by parent request when needed)
7. Presence at IEP meetings (for families of students with an IEP)
8. Progress Reports (made by me especially for each student and sent home for guardian signature)

EVIDENCE:
To the right, you see the home page of my Google Classroom account, which shows Google Classrooms for each of the five sections I teach. Below are a series of screenshots from my Google Classroom pages, where I constantly post syllabi, assignments, PowerPoints, handouts, reminders, notes, and even full texts. Students and parents can access these pages from any computer or mobile device and they automatically receive an email whenever I add something. |
EVIDENCE:
Below is an example of a progress report, generated for an individual student, and sent home to the parents of that student. Progress reports like this are generated well in advance of the end of term, so that problems still have a chance of being solved before grades post.
